A film with no video file
The whole film is a small JavaScript program. Every frame is drawn live on a canvas from about forty paper cut-outs and eleven painted backdrops. The pieces jitter at twelve frames a second, like stop-motion under a rostrum camera, and each scene arrives on a torn sheet of paper. Rain, embers, ripples, falling jasmine, typed letters and the dotted route are all generated as the film plays. So are the sound effects: paper rustle, bombers, stream, fire, crickets, typewriter, monkeys and the temple bell are all synthesised in WebAudio. The two recorded tracks are the narration and the score.
